Company Overview

Founded in 2000, CompoSecure has established itself in the financial technology industry with a focus on premium metal payment cards that were high quality and secure.

In 2021 in CompoSecure launched the Arculus Cold Storage Wallet as its first product. This wallet combines a physical card, the Arculus Key Card, with a mobile app for secure management of digital assets.

The Arculus Key Card is a passive device that remains locked until wallet creation, ensuring that private keys are not generated until the user initiates the process. This card, combined with the Arculus Wallet app, offers a secure method for crypto storage and transactions.

Key features of the Arculus system include:

  1. 3-Factor Authentication: The system employs a 3-factor authentication process for enhanced security, requiring the Arculus Key Card, a biometric factor (such as fingerprint or facial recognition), and a 6-digit PIN for access.
  2. NFC Technology: The Arculus Key Card uses NFC technology for communication with the Arculus Wallet app, ensuring a seamless and secure connection.
  3. Cold Storage: As a cold storage wallet, Arculus keeps your private keys offline, reducing the risk of hacking and theft.
  4. Supported Cryptocurrencies: The Arculus Wallet supports a wide range of cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and various ERC20 tokens, among others.

Security Incidents

  1. June 2023, Arculus card holders were the subject of phishing attacks asking users to update their firmware even though the card has no firmware to update. It’s unclear how Arculus-Composecure customer info was compromised.

Big Brother Government Influence

If Arculus users want to purchase or swap bitcoin-crypto through the App, Arculus partner Onramper requires location disclosure ad well as camera access for KYC/AML verification. At this time, Arculus requires no personal info to simply hold digital assets like bitcoin, crypto, or NFTs.
